This Sunday is the season seven premier of Mad Men, and we’re super excited! From what we know, the new season will probably take place in 1969 (although it could start in 1970, it’s not likely). Since we couldn’t wait until the weekend to get our vintage advertising fix, we went digging and put together this collection of classic ads. So go mix up your favorite cocktailand enjoy our gallery – Sunday will be here before you know it.
This Kodak ad is sweet and simple, with the kind of caption we might write today.
Mad Men and fine suits go hand in hand, don’t you think?
Cambells soup ads always seem to make it into these lists. What can we say? They’re always classics.
1969 was also the year Coca-Cola released their famous “Hilltop” ad. The video is worth a watch, but be warned – you’ll be singing that song all day.
Wendy’s might have just been starting up, but McDonald’s was in full corporate swing in 1969 – and that included ad campaigns.
As an interesting side note, Wendy’s was founded in 1969, which explains the style of traditional Wendy’s signs.
The “Virginia is for Lovers” campaign has been going since 1969. Who do you think is more likely to have written the copy – Don Draper or Peggy?
This Dodge Charger ad really taps into late 60’s car culture.
